About our end of tenancy cleaning service in SE17 Walworth, Elephant & Castle
Walworth is an inner-city district in the London Borough of Southwark. Walworth has driven its name from the old English “Wealhworth” which meant Welsh (British) farm. It is located south east of Charing Cross and near to Camberwell and Elephant and Castle. The major streets in Walworth are the Old Kent Road and Walworth Road. One of the places of interest is the St. Peter’s Church, Walworth, being an excellent example of the neo-classical style of church built by Sir John Soane. It signifies the wealth of the middle-class merchants who then lived showing that they could afford an architect of such importance.
Manor Place Baths is a previous wash house in Manor Place off Walworth Road. The building was renovated by the Kagyu Samye Dzong Tibetan Buddhist Centre and is currently grade II listed building. Walworth is also home to the Pullens buildings – a mixture of Victorian live/work spaces and yards. Many of the flats are 1 bedroom, and some of the flats still connect to the Workshops of any of the three yards (Illife Yard, Peacock Yard and one other). They all share communal roof terraces with extensive views over to the West End.
Walworth also used to have a Zoo, in Royal Surrey Gardens, which was visited by Queen Victoria. Other famous landmark is the East Street market, being a major street market. Interesting fact about the area is that in William Shakespeare’s time, there was a theatre called Newington Butts and later there were further theatres. New roads brought development opportunities with the time. Nearest underground station are the Elephant & Castle. Nearest National Rail station is Elephant & Castle as well.
